It is impossible to generalise about the sailing regions in Italy. The experiences on offer are as diverse and unique as the people themselves. Tuscans, Neapolitans, Sicilians and Sardinians all form a rich tapestry on which modern day Italy is shaped. A sailing holiday to Italy reflects this, with each destination offering a very different character and beauty for each sailor to discover. Whether you're looking for lovely golden beaches, colourful Italian architecture, amazing natural wonders, glam and glitz, secluded rustic islands, dramatic craggy coasts or exciting sailing breezes - Italy has them all. Take your time to read through each of our regional profiles and get to know a different side of Italy - best viewed from your very own yacht.

Blessed with a long dry summer, the best time to sail in Italy is from May through to early October. June and July are wonderful months to visit, with sea temperatures creeping up as the weeks go by. August coincides with both British school holidays and the Italian summer holidays and so can often be busy. September is a good time to visit for those wishing to take advantage of warm seas and few children. Those looking for the best deals should consider May and October.
Our bases are spread throughout Italy, serving each of our four primary sailing area. Sail from around Pisa for the Tuscan Islands, and Salerno and Naples for the Amalfi Coast. We also have bases along the northern coast of Sicily for the Aeolian Islands and around the northeastern corner of Sardinia for the Costa Smeralda.
Seamaster offers financially protected flight packages to Italy from the UK. Each sailing region has at least one designated airport, though many have two to choose from. When flying from the UK there are numerous airports around the country that fly to Italy. For specific airports in Italy, you’ll find them on our region pages.
Expect warm, dry weather from May through to October, with the water temperatures warming up through the year. Wind conditions are not as uniform however, as each region has its own unique wind patterns. Sicily and Sardinia experience windier conditions with Tuscany and the Amalfi coast and generally calmer.
Mooring fees across Italy can be expensive. Careful planning is important when sailing Italy to avoid entering the most expensive places by accident. There are some marinas that can set you back several hundred pounds per night (Capri and Porto Cervo in Sardinia, for example), so it’s important to have an understanding of what the costs may be and have the ability to plan to avoid them. Seamaster can help you with this process.
Charterers in Italy need a minimum of an RYA Day Skipper, though we now recommend having an ICC certificate (International Certificate of Competence). If you are in any doubt, please contact Seamaster and we will advised you or even get pre-approval.
